Trash Rack Cleaning Machine Installation
Supply, delivery and installation of Muhr Trash Rack Cleaning Machine (TRCM) at Nepal's largest hydropower station to ensure continuous operation and minimize production obstacles caused by excessive debris on trash racks.
Project Overview
Installed a new automated Muhr trash rack cleaning machine with boom hoist at the 144 MW Kali Gandaki 'A' Hydropower Station, which contributes 25% of Nepal's total electricity production. The project involved installing a new TRCM with double removing capability compared to the existing machine, allowing it to rake each 4.85m slot in one shot rather than two. The system includes intake under-sluice stop log, trash removal system, spare parts and special tools. The cleaning algorithm is controlled automatically by water level sensors, ensuring reliable removal of deposited foreign bodies from protective racks. The power station has 3 units each with 48 MW capacity and generates approximately 817.712 GWh annually. The installation was designed to allow easy operation and maintenance whilst reducing modifications to the plant without endangering persons or equipment. The project addressed the challenge of excessive debris accumulation during seasonal changes like autumn leaf fall and winter ice coverage that was hampering the existing insufficient raking machine.
