Powering the Far-West – Jogbuda 33/11 kV Substation
At Mahavir Shree International (MSI), every project is more than an engineering challenge – it’s an opportunity to bring reliable electricity closer to the people who need it most. One of our proudest milestones is the successful design, construction, and commissioning of the 33/11 kV, 6/8 MVA substation in Jogbuda, Dadeldhura District.
Delivered on a turnkey basis for the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), this project is a testament to MSI’s expertise in handling complex infrastructure works in some of the most challenging terrains of Nepal’s far-west.
The Project in Brief
The Jogbuda Substation project involved the end-to-end delivery of a modern 33/11 kV facility – from design and engineering to supply, installation, testing, and commissioning. The substation was built to strengthen the regional grid, reduce technical losses, and improve voltage stability in an area that had long struggled with unreliable supply.
Awarded under NEA’s Sudurpaschim Provincial Office, the project was valued at around seventy million rupees and executed with MSI as the prime contractor and sole entity. Our team took full responsibility for ensuring the substation met technical standards, was delivered on schedule, and integrated seamlessly into the NEA network.

Building Power in the Hills
Jogbuda is a small but vital hub in Dadeldhura. Before this project, households and businesses in the region were at the far end of long distribution lines stretched over rugged hills. The result was frequent voltage drops, outages, and limited capacity for new connections.
By constructing this 33/11 kV substation, MSI brought high-voltage power closer to consumers. Now, electricity is stepped down locally at Jogbuda and distributed via new 11 kV feeders radiating into surrounding communities. This dramatically improves power quality, reduces losses, and creates capacity for future expansion.
Execution Journey
The project began in March 2023, with MSI mobilizing engineering and construction teams on-site. Jogbuda’s remote location meant overcoming logistical hurdles – transporting heavy transformers and equipment across narrow mountain roads required careful planning and local coordination.
Despite the challenges, MSI completed the core substation works on time. A critical dependency was the incoming 33 kV line from Budar, which faced delays outside of our scope. Our team responded proactively, completing all internal works ahead of time and standing ready to energize as soon as the line was live.
In June 2025, the substation was officially commissioned and energized. From that day forward, Jogbuda and its surrounding villages began receiving steady, high-quality power.
Challenges Turned into Achievements
Delivering this project was not without its hurdles:
Remote terrain & transport: Moving a 40-ton transformer and other equipment to Jogbuda tested logistics and ingenuity. MSI overcame this with phased transport strategies and strong local partnerships.
Line dependency: Progress of the substation was tied to the incoming 33 kV line. By sequencing our tasks smartly and coordinating with NEA, we ensured no time was lost on our side.
Multi-disciplinary coordination: Managing civil, electrical, and commissioning teams simultaneously required precise project management. Regular reviews and on-site leadership ensured smooth execution.
Each challenge reinforced MSI’s reputation as a resilient and reliable project partner capable of delivering in complex conditions.
Impact on the Community
The Jogbuda substation is more than an engineering achievement – it’s a lifeline for communities in Dadeldhura and beyond:
Reliable Power: Households now experience stable voltage and fewer outages. Everyday life is easier – from running home appliances to powering irrigation pumps.
New Connections: With fresh capacity, NEA can extend service to nearby villages that had no grid access until now.
Economic Growth: Reliable electricity encourages small industries, businesses, schools, and health posts to expand and operate more effectively.
Support to NEA’s Vision: This project directly contributes to Nepal’s goal of universal electricity access and improved rural electrification.
Looking Ahead
The successful commissioning of the Jogbuda Substation demonstrates MSI’s engineering expertise, project management discipline, and commitment to Nepal’s energy future. It reinforces our role as a trusted partner to the NEA and a proven leader in delivering high-quality power infrastructure.
As we look ahead, MSI remains focused on supporting Nepal’s transition to a stronger, more resilient grid. Each substation we build is more than just steel and transformers – it’s about enabling brighter futures for communities across the country.
Mahavir Shree International is proud to have powered Jogbuda – and we’re excited for the many more communities we will help light up in the years to come.
